About us

Our Story

Founder Shelly Burton's enduring love for animals guided her towards roles as a veterinary assistant and licensed wildlife rehabber, paving the way for her dream of an animal sanctuary. Following JR's retirement from law enforcement, they joined dreams and resources to purchase 14 acres in Pasco County, Florida, establishing The Spirit Tree.

Shelly's devotion to animal welfare is complemented by JR's versatile skills as a craftsman and handyman, who meticulously builds animal enclosures and manages essential systems, ensuring the sanctuary's harmony and efficiency.

Our Mission

We are committed to offering a forever home to exotic, farm animals, reptiles, and wildlife that need a safe and caring environment. Our mission is to provide a nurturing space for animals that may be unreleasable or have been abused, and to educate people about the importance of compassion and kindness towards all living beings. By sharing the stories of our residents, we aim to inspire empathy and promote a culture of care and understanding for animals

Our Vision

Our objective is to grow responsibly, ensuring financial stability to provide outstanding care for our sanctuary residents. We anticipate launching outreach initiatives, incorporating educational programs and ambassador animals, in settings such as daycares, libraries, and assisted living facilities to educate the public about animal significance and the need for protection.
